Their Wedding Story

We love all our couples, but if we’re being honest, some weddings are just straight up cooler than others. We were so psyched to get to capture a wedding at a ZOO!! It just so happens that Kevin & Allison are also extremely cool people as well, so it was a perfect day if you ask us!

The day began at Kevin’s parents house with all the guys getting their suits on and giggling together. In the tradition of friendship, we were sure to encourage all the groomsmen to gently tease Kevin as he put on the final touches of his outfit. Kevin made sure to include a little touch of Warhammer 40k with the 8 point star of chaos as a pin on his tie, this was a secret surprise to share with his bride later. All the boys had bottlecap pins as an homage to the Disney movie Up! After making sure to grab some photos with everyone together including their pup, we were off to see the girls!

Allison was already finishing up hair and make-up with all the girls in their matching red and pink PJ’s. Mom & Sis helped Aliison get dressed, making sure she also smelled good with a complimentary “pit check” from her sister. We gathered everyone together for one final dance break together, then headed off to the zoo! Allison met her father there for their first look, gathering tears from everyone around as he gave her a big hug and suddenly it was time for the first look with Kevin.

(In case you didn’t know, Becky, our lead photographer, is obsessed with giraffes. It is her favorite animal, with several giraffe decorations all over her house. So as you can imagine, with the first look set to happen during the giraffe’s feeding time, he were beyond psyched!) Kevin awaited his bride in the bright summer sun, surrounded by giraffes to keep him company. As Allison tapped his shoulder to turn around, he immediately had a big wide grin to greet her with his arms held out in excitement to see her! They then were given branches to FEED the giraffes, truly a one of a kind experience for your wedding day!

We tucked the two of them away and headed off to meet guests for what might be the most excellent way to enjoy your ceremony, surrounded by gentle, Disney princess style, friendly and sweet deer. The zoo was kind enough to litter the ground surrounding the ceremony with feed for the deer so that they would be encouraged to join in on the festivities! By the time Allison had begun her walk up the aisle, they were already surrounding guests, delighting everyone. Allison and Kevin both shared personally written vows, and with a kiss, they were married!

We continued the fun with family formals and wedding party portraits still happening inside the deer forest, then quickly shooed everyone away so that Kevin & Allison could enjoy some privacy for their formal portraits together. We even took a trip on the skyfari, which carried us over several animal enclosures for some of the best shots of the day!

The reception was bustling by the time we returned and we were eager to get the party started. The wedding party wow’ed the crowd with their entrances including not only piggyback rides from the bridesmaids, but also the groomsmen showing off the entrance moves from the bad guys in the movie dodgeball. After toasts and speeches, and of course Allison and Kevin shoving cake down each other’s faces, it was time to rock and roll with the amazing selection of music for the evening. (They even had custom songs about Allison and Kevin’s names, that we caught these two bopping out to!) The rest of the evening was a riot with everyone dancing, enjoying the photo booth, and taking some badass sunglasses shots. All in all, the coolest and most fun wedding we’ve had all year!
